QA Lead @ Playdom
In 2009, Jeff joined Playdom as a QA Lead, the 2nd QA hire at the company. Playdom was a fast-growing social media casual gaming company with 10s of millions of active monthly users. Jeff was originally tasked with testing new features and regressions ahead of releases and performing post-deploy verifications and monitoring.
After continued growth, Jeff's role matured into leading QA for 6 game titles simultaneously world-wide, with 2+ QA Engineers on each team. He was also responsible for testing the viral advertising and engagement component of the entire company. The company was later acquired by Disney where Jeff was tasked to start QA at a new studio.
Duties Performed
Testing
Early at Playdom, Jeff tested 100's of regression tests per night as part of the regression suite. He also was involved with testing new features and in-game items. Jeff worked closely as well with the Automation Team to identify areas of the apps that could/should be automated for quicker regression runs.
Leadership
Leading QA for 6 teams around the world (and around the clock) is no simple task, luckily for Playdom Jeff has an endless supply of energy and was able to maintain quality in a very diverse and complex situation.
Communication
Communication was especially important at Playdom. Jeff maintained an open line of communication with the Customer Support team, to make sure that bugs were being addressed quickly. He also had to respond to communications from game studios from every corner of the earth, making the role almost a 24 hour engagement.
