QA Manager @ SiriusXM

TeenSafe was acquired by SiriusXM in 2018, at which point Jeffrey was brought on to SiriusXM's safe driving app as their QA Manager. As manager, Jeff's responsibilities included managing a team of 4 QA Engineers, creating and managing manual and automated suites, and overseeing testing of a mobile app, hardware, and firmware updates.

Duties Performed

Testing

Jeff was responsible for providing test coverage for SiriusXM's driving app, along with their ODB2 dongle and associated firmware versions. This included large automated and manual test suites using Appium, Selenium, and TestRail.

Leadership

As a QA Manager, Jeff elevated his team to test more proactively by implementing shift-left policies. KPIs were introduced into the QA org and escaped bugs were greatly reduced. Jeff trained existing QA Engineers up into automation and leadership roles.

Unique Challenges

The transition from a small, technical startup into a large corporation wasn't difficult, but it did require a lot of learning and adapting to different management styles. The size of the team meant Jeff couldn't be as hands-on as before at TeenSafe, and had to focus more on improvement through effective management.

Tools Used

SirusXM's QA department utilized JIRA for issue tracking, and Zephyr for test case management. Outside of those tools, Jeff used CharlesProxy, SQL, Appium, and DataDog.
