QA Automation Manager @ IPG Mediabrands
As a QA Manager for one of IPG Mediabrands' tools, Jeff led an offshore team of skilled automation engineers working with Selenium to maintain and add to a suite of 700+ automated tests. Reporting to the VP of engineering, his duties included hands-on automation engineering, mentorship, resource management, collaboration with product and engineering, and investigating new tools and technology.
Duties Performed
Management
Jeff successfully led a team of automation engineers to test tools used by clients with multi-million dollar contracts. Testing had to be thorough and complete, and it was expected that the automation suite would cover almost all of it.
Research
While at IPG, Jeff never stopped trying to improve the process and tooling. IPG is where he learned Ruby from fellow managers, and built a smaller scale End-to-End suite that was much easier to maintain while providing the same coverage as the existing JavaScript suite.
Collaboration
Receiving customer requests and turning them into acceptance criteria and working with product to develop specifications for new features was commonplace. About half of his time spent at IPG was attending product discussions and spec gathering.
Tools Used
Jeff's role was originally set to be maintaining the existing suite of 700+ Selenium tests in JavaScript. API testing was also manually performed using Postman, and later turned into automated scripts. Jeff implemented and maintained custom dashboards for reporting test coverage, failures, and tests set for deletion.
