QA Lead @ BranchOut
In the early 2010s, BranchOut was one of the fastest-growing apps on Facebook.com. Millions of users came to BranchOut to post jobs. BranchOut's mission was being the LinkedIn for the blue collar worker, back when LinkedIn was mostly tech. Jeff's responsibility was to take QA from 0 -> 1 at a very fast-growing startup with over 30 engineers. Jeff not only created and ran the QA function for the company, but also assisted the PM with scrum/agile, having been certified previously while at Disney Interactive. This was his first experience starting QA from scratch, and he got hooked.
Duties Performed
Testing
At BranchOut, 100's of manual tests were written and executed in order to ensure releases were free from regressions. Jeff was also responsible for new feature testing, performance testing, and viewing logs post-deployment to ensure there were no new issues introduced.
Agile
Having been scrum certified in the previous year at Disney Interactive, Jeff assisted the PM with running the agile process. This included hosting scrum, managing JIRA, and managing the user stories on the whiteboard.
Issue Tracking
For issue tracking, Jeff administered JIRA for the company. Within JIRA, he ran triage meetings, backlog refinement meetings, and ensured tickets were moving through the system properly and timely.
Tools Used
BranchOut was one of Jeffrey's earlier experiences, and was mostly a manual testing role. But within that role, various technologies were still implemented to ensure success: JIRA, SQL, TestRail, and DataDog.
