Senior QA Tester @ PlayStation
Joining PlayStation in 2006 as a QA Tester was Jeff's first role in QA. At the time he thought he was just getting his foot in the door in gaming after having received his degree in Game Design and Development. After the first day testing, he was hooked. Jeff wanted nothing more than to test software from this point on.
While at PlayStation, he learned many crucial skills in bug discovery and reporting, including taking notes constantly, reporting bugs as they're found, compiling bug reports, and managing teams. He was quickly promoted to Sr. QA Tester during his first contract, and returned for a second contract.
Duties Performed
Network Testing
Jeff worked in third party online, so all testing was related to network play. This included various network setups, router configurations, network troubleshooting, and Wi-Fi.
Game Testing
Jeff tested 100s of games against Sony's TRC's(technical requirement checklist), as well as ad-hoc testing, load testing, and exploratory testing across PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, and PlayStation 3.
Leadership
After being promoted to Sr. Tester, Jeff was tasked with leading games through test. This involved orchestrating multiplayer sessions, maintaining hardware, compiling test reports, and verifying accuracy in the reports.
Tools Used
Routers, modems, PlayStation consoles(PS2, PSP, PS3), and faraday cages, along with Sony's internal bug reporting software.
